President Patil Makes History


President Patil makes history by flying in a Sukhoi-30 combat plane.

Lohegaon air base of Indian Air Force was buzz with activities and excitement on Wednesday morning. However, President Pratibha Devisinh Patil (74), who smoothly set a record of being the first woman President in the world to take the skies in the world's unmatched fighter plane - Sukhoi - 30 MKI - was cool, calm and quiet even after her 30 minute sortie.
Top officials of IAF were busy for President's Sukhoi sortie for more than a month but everybody was happy when President was more than satisfied and found her comfortable and confident with the exercise.

Accompanied by Air Chief Marshal P V Naik and Air Marshal P S Bhangu, President Pratibha Patil arrived at Lohegaon air base at 9.35 and accepted guard of honors. IAF officials again brief her about the sortie and Pratibha Patil started walking towards Sukhoi 30 MKI - in a specially made military green colored G-suit around 10.30 am. She was introduced to the staff and the plane took off at 10.55 am.

President was confident and comfortable when she climbed the staircase and waived hands to the staff and the media persons, who had gathered in large number. Before Sukhoi MI 130 took off, in which President was sitting, two Sukhoi planes took off to escort President's plane. Another plane also left after President's Sukhoi flew in the skies.
Pratibha Patil was in the skies for almost half an hour. Her plane landed around 11.28 am when she was again greeted by IAF officials and Presidential staff. Wing Commander S Sajan, who was pilot of President's plane, helped her to alight from the staircase.


"It was a wonderful and unique experience", said Pratibha Patil after her sortie. "I was familiarized with maneuvering of plane which was very sophisticated and technically advanced", said President.
President, who talked to media persons in G-suit, was comfortable, cool and quiet. "She felt as if she was going into skies in a second. I was inspired too much", Pratibha Patil said, adding that she was in sky 2200 meters high while the speed was gradually increased from 600 km per hour to more than 800 km per hour.
"I did maneuvers with the plane. Some times at left and right and even up and down for twice", President said. President's Sukhoi half round of Pune covering northern, western and eastern areas of the city during which she noticed villages like Rajgurunagar, Shirur and Baramati.
When asked whether there was apprehension among the people, close to her about her sortie, Pratibha Patil said it was not at all but there was certainly an excitement. "I was confident since beginning. So far as submarine is concerned, I will see when it comes", she said. President said she has been doing her regular exercise for years and was taking some special exercise for Sukhoi sortie.

नया इतिहास,राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा पाटिल ने भरी सुखोई में उड़ान
राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा पाटिल ने बुधवार को भारतीय वायुसेना के ल़डाकू विमान जेट सुखोई-30 एमकेआई में उ़डान भरी। इसी के साथ उन्होंने एक नया इतिहास रच दिया। पाटिल विश्व की ऎसी पहली भारतीय राष्ट्रपति महिला हैं जिसने ल़डाकू विमान सुखोई में उ़डान भरी है। राष्ट्रपति के इस 22 मिनट के सफर के लिए उन्हें खास ट्रेनिंग दी गई थी। डॉ अपीजे अब्दुल कलाम के बाद ऎसा करने वाली वह देश की दूसरी राष्ट्रपति हैं।
मगर कलाम और प्रतिभा में खास फर्क था। डॉ. कलाम वैज्ञानिक थे और उनको ऎसे विमानों के बारे में पूरी जानकारी थी जबकि प्रतिभा पाटिल का न तो विज्ञान से नाता रहा और ना ही 900 किलोमीटर प्रतिघंटे की रफ्तार से उ़डान भरने वाले सुखोई जैसे विमानों को कभी नजदीक से देखा। राष्ट्रपति पाटिल ने पुणे के बाहरी इलाके में स्थित वायुसेना के लोहेगांव बेस से सुखोई से उ़डान भरी। पाटिल ने एक विशेष जी-सूट पहना, जो उनके लिए खास तौर से तैयार किया गया था।
इस जी-सूट ने उ़डान के दौरान उन्हें उच्च गुरूत्वाकर्षण दबाव के साथ सामंजस्य बनाए रखने में मदद कि।
इस ल़डाकू सुखोई विमान के पायलट विंग कमाडर एस साजन थे। इससे पहले मंगलवार को वायुसेना के विंग कमांडर ने कहा था कि राष्ट्रपति पाटिल स्वास्थ्य के लिहाज से इस उ़डान के लिए पूरी तरह फिट हैं। बुधवार सुबह पुणे के लोहेगांव एयरबेस पर राष्ट्रपति प्रतिभा पाटिल का काफिला पहुंचा। इसके बाद वह सुखोई फाइटर विमान पर सवार होकर करीब 22 मिनट तक आकाश में हवा से बातें की।

74 वर्षीय पाटिल के लिए ये उड़ान काफी खास थी और इसके लिए वह बेहद उत्साहित थी। राष्ट्रपति ने सुखोई में उड़ान भरने के बाद कहा कि महिलाएं भी लड़ाकू विमान उड़ाने में सक्षम हैं। पाटिल ने कहा कि ऐसा कोई काम नहीं है जो महिलाएं नहीं कर सकती। उन्हें देश की महिलाओं पर पूरा भरोसा है और वह जल्दी ही सरकार के साथ मिलकर महिला लड़ाकू पायलटों के मामले में फैसला करेंगी।

19 lack Needy don’t have ration cards in Delhi

By the Delhi government unravels a shocking tale of hunger, poverty and a public distribution system mired in corruption. Out of 39 lakh individuals surveyed, almost 19 lakh most of them needy did not have ration cards and, in turn, no access to subsidized food grains or recognized proof of identity. Carried out under the Mission Convergence programme, the survey aimed at identifying the vulnerable and building a database for targeted intervention. Individuals in nine lakh households across slums, JJ clusters and resettlement colonies were surveyed in two phases. The data shows that almost 49% of the 55,608 differently-able surveyed were without ration cards. Of 81,618 widows, 33.5% did not have ration cards while out of 97,823 women-headed households 34.6% had no cards. The Central government's PDS programme has set a fixed limit for each state in terms of granting a subsidy for ration.
